On October 4-5, 2021, the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after N.Tusi of ANAS will host the International Scientific Conference "Modern trends in studies of physics and dynamics of the Solar system bodies".
This year, the Azerbaijani scientific and astronomical community celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the first director of the Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory (ShAO), the famous astronomer Hajibey F. Sultanov. He was born in 1921, after graduating from the Azerbaijan State University, H. Sultanov served in the ranks of the Soviet army, has participated in the Great Patriotic War and fought against Hitler's Germany. From 1953, he led the construction of an observatory in Azerbaijan, and from the time the ShAO was registered as an enterprise (1959) to 1981, he was a director of the observatory. From 1976 to 1981 H. Sultanov was the vice-president of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. From 1981 to 2007, he headed the "Researches of small bodies" department at the ShAO. H.F. Sultanov was a member of the International Astronomical Union. He was awarded a number of state awards of the Soviet Union and the Republic of Azerbaijan. His scientific activity was mainly devoted to the problem of the origin of asteroids.
By the decision of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Scientific Council of ShAO, on October 4-5, 2021, Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory will host the International online conference "Modern trends in studies of physics and dynamics of the Solar system bodies" dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Academician H.F. Sultanov.
