This year, it is planned to hold many events around the world in connection with the 100th anniversary of the International Astronomical Union. The first of these events is the event "100 Hours Astronomy", which took place from 10 to 13 January 2019. The IAU has announced three categories of competitions at this event (astronomy for everyone, the most innovative measure, the largest measure).

The main objective of the competition is to make various innovative and comprehensive initiatives to promote the key role of astronomy in the development, education, advocacy and diplomacy.

A series of events have been organized in Baku and Observatory for four days, jointly organized by Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi of ANAS, Azercosmos OJSC, Republican Children and Youth Development Center, Tusi Bohm Planetarium. In the event sheet, arrangements for pupils' trip to the Planetarium, organization of cosmic competitions among pupils, organization of night observations with telescopes, daytime observations, special meetings in women and girls astronomy. One of the most important moments of the event was the participation of orphans and disabled children in these events. The event was widely covered by social media and local TV channels.

It should be noted that more than 1,200 events were held in 86 countries around the world at this competition announced at the IAU on the promotion of astronomy at the specified dates.

The names of the winners in three categories announced by the IAU were disclosed on March 11, 2019. It is pleasant that the event, organized in Azerbaijan, was awarded first place in the category "Astronomy for Everyone". In this regard, the National Coordinator of the IAU for Azerbaijan and Scientific worker of ShAO, Famil Mustafa was awarded a certificate and a fully automated Celestron 6-Inch SE NexStar telescope for the 1st place and an invitation to be held in Brussels on 11-13 April.
